Personality
Magne is a BIG guy. He's always been big, but that's part of his charm. At first glance, it's difficult to know if his size and strength actually play into his personality, but at heart, he is nothing but a gentle giant. Truthfully, there isn't much to fear when it comes to Magne. He is the safest guy you'll ever be around. His laughs are hearty, his smile is soft, and his lively, shire-green eyes harken back to the forests he calls home. There's nothing quite like the siren song of the Shroud's natural bounty to make one feel alive, and Magne makes sure to bring that wonder to all aspects of life. However, the phrase "he's more scared of you than you are of him" tends to apply more often than not. Most of the time, he comes across as slightly nervous with regards to new situations, especially if he's going to new places and encountering new experiences on his own. He tends to be more outgoing if he's around people he's familiar with.Magne is an extremely empathetic person, oftentimes allowing his feelings and perceptions of said feelings to make decisions for him instead of logic-based conclusions. With that being said, he is in no way lacking in logic and wisdom. He is incredibly knowledgeable about the things he's passionate about like gardening, raising children, cooking and baking (as well as snacking), and being a wonderful listener and has cultivated a strong sense of insight.Once you get to know him, he can be fiercely loyal and protective, especially if you prove to him that you have good intentions, need a friend, need his help, or are good at heart. The downside is that he's easily deceived, especially by people who aim to take advantage of his good-natured personality. He's ignorant of the fact that there are people in the world who would lie and deceive in order to use him. Unfortunately, he knows this now from experience but still has hope that it's a rare occurrence. While he doesn't feel he's particularly good at first impressions, you'll quickly learn that he's a wholesome, good-natured, dad-shaped himbo.
Background
It all began with a commune in the North Shroud started by a group of Hellsguard Roegadyns looking to reconnect with the beauty of nature as opposed to the destruction of the Coerthan volcanoes. This commune would grow into a sizeable settlement consisting of a number of self-taught gardeners, tanners, and other craftspeople dedicated to self-sufficiency.It was here that a young Magne would grow and take up gardening and fall in love with the cultivation of life by his own hands. However, with the tragedy and destruction post-Calamity, things were never the same. The Wood Wailers, with their duty to oversee every inch of the Twelveswood, moved into the commune, seizing the stronghold for themselves and displacing its residents. With nowhere to stay, the community itself dissolved, spreading to the far reaches of the star, taking their varying skills with them.Magne found himself wandering from Gridania to Ul'dah and taking up work as a merchant selling herbs and produce when his size and stature attracted the attention of the Gladiator's Guild. His strength made him a prime candidate for a competitor. With the promise of raising the city-state's morale, Magne was taken in under the patronage of a wealthy artisan and was specifically trained and groomed to fit the man his patron wanted him to become.Multiple life-threatening incidents in the Coliseum and uncomfortable evenings with his patron awakened him to one of the biggest choices he would ever make: would he continue to act as his patron's muse or would he step up and become his own beacon of hope and safety? His escape led him to the door of the Sultansworn, who quickly took his training in offensive battle and taught him to defend and protect the citizens of Ul'dah and beyond. His life as a defender of the innocent and a protector of the peace had now begun.Years of acting as a freelance Paladin for varying efforts across Eorzea had given him a full and complete purpose, one that he would take pride in and carry as a badge of honor wherever he went and in whatever he did.As a foster father, husband, partner, teacher, and therapist, he dedicated his strength and skills to aiding others and helping to regrow the sense of community he had learned to cherish as a child, even if that effort required as much care and nourishment as even the smallest of seedlings.

~ Son of the Forest ~
Magne grew up in a commune of 30-40 strong in the North Shroud up until the Calamity and spent the majority of his childhood immersed in nature. He and a number of family members were displaced by the Wood Wailers as their home was claimed as a base of operations. His heart will always remain there and it will always be his home. He still enjoys visiting from time to time to enjoy the freedom of exploring the wonders of nature at his own pace.Of all the things his home had impressed upon him, the mysteries of the Deep Shroud remain intriguing, long walks through the woods oftentimes drew him to new and unique discoveries and the Sylphs were always a fun and friendly bunch to stumble across (especially as a child). While has mixed feelings about the Wood Wailers occupying so much of the Twelveswood, he still makes time to pay respects to the home he once had by visiting the ruins
of a once-thriving community, even if that requires holding his tongue around the forces that currently take up residence there.
~ Hardened by Combat ~
Possible CW: Toxic Relationship, Manipulation, AbuseA majority of Magne's combat training began when he joined the Gladiators of Ul'dah.During his journey to find his place post-Calamity as a merchant of herbs and produce, he was approached by an ambassador of the Gladiators' Guild about participating in live bouts in the Coliseum as a way to raise morale. There was a wealthy patron looking to sponsor new up-and-coming combatants and Magne's build made for a very compelling competitor. His time in training was mainly spent with his patron and rewards ranged from personal attention to feigned attraction-- dangled in front of him as a treat for him to do tricks to receive. His idea of love had been based solely on this experience and would take time to unlearn. While he wasn't one for senseless violence, he had been taught that his participation raised spirits and provided a much-needed form of escape for those struggling to find joy within Ul'dah's walls. With this experience came a new set of skills as a fighter.
~ A Self-Made Father ~
Due to the fallout from the Calamity, communities and families struggled to survive. No one was spared from the lack of resources, the loss of loved ones, and the desire to rebuild and regrow. This, unfortunately, included children who were left to fend for themselves or families who were unable to support their children. With the help of his husband, Amir, extra effort was taken to turn their homestead into a safe house for many lost souls looking for someone to love and care for them.Their efforts were recognized and aided by friends and family, and soon, they established a small youth services project. While the project itself isn't entirely public, the two are very open about their work as foster parents and are proud of the children they have had the honor of raising.Magne considers himself a father to every child who has crossed his threshold whether or not it was for a fleeting moment, an indefinite amount of time, or forever. He and his husband are currently housing and caring for four small children and one teenager.
~ A Big, Green Thumb ~
One of the most wonderful things in the world is taking the time to understand the world and how one can contribute to keeping it alive and beautiful. Gardening has been a hobby that Magne has put plenty of time and energy into, especially since he grew up in a self-sustainable community. His knowledge of various flora, how to grow them, how to tend to them, and how each is special and unique can make for quite an educational conversation.Of all the aspects of gardening that bring him joy, the ability to share in the wonder of caring for something so delicate and important is perhaps the most important whether that comes in the form of teaching, parallel gardening, sharing plants with other enthusiasts, or partaking of goods created from the produce and herbs he's grown. The beauty of nature is meant to be shared.
~ The Stalwart Shield ~
With the set of sword and shield skills he obtained via the Gladiators' Guild and the Coliseum, finding a reason to put them to practical use outside the Coliseum walls wasn't as difficult as he thought. After leaving the Coliseum for his own health, he stumbled his way to the Sultansworn looking for work that fit his new expertise. Thankfully, they saw the goodness in him and decided to bring him into the fold as a fledgling Paladin.Through his time studying the Paladins code of honor as well as honing his new craft, Magne was given the opportunity to travel throughout Eorzea as a recruit on loan for a number of rescue missions, guard positions, and aides during various high-stakes encounters.Through his work, he served a number of small villages throughout Eorzea, accompanied many a budding adventurer, and saved a number of lives as one of the star's many unwavering protectors. His time, however, was cut short due to a mandatory leave seeing as he practically refused to take breaks. Even though he's on a 'council-ordered vacation' he still sneaks off to take up requests from job boards and accompany varying hunts.
~ Painting the Harbor Green ~
Despite wanting to work as a freelance Paladin forever, the mind, body, and spirit can't keep up the pace forever. As a way to preserve his health, the Sultansworn ordered Magne to take a mandatory leave of absence to rest.Rest for Magne mainly looks like sneaking job requests from various Adventuring Guilds as well as snagging opportunities to accompany hunts throughout Eorzea, but recently he has begun to learn what rest truly looks like. After spontaneously looking into a job fair, Magne came across a safe haven called Chrysalis Harbor, dedicated to offering resources for travellers, refugees, ex-Warders, and retired as well as active adventurers. He was motivated to check out their resources for himself and fell in love with their mission. It didn't take long for him to become part of the team, and further still, the family.Magne's work at the Harbor includes tending to the onsite garden, assisting with open house events to check in and watch over weaponry and has taken up teaching classes in gardening and agriculture. He is currently accepting applications for clients as an official therapist of Harbor and would love to offer his gentle and cozy brand of support to anyone looking for someone to talk to.
